Gregor Cameron Consultancy Celtic Society Cup Final

A showpiece event on the shinty calendar Kyles Athletic meet Oban Camanachd in the Gregor Cameron Consultancy Celtic Society Cup Final at Taynuilt Sports Field.  Throw-up is at 4pm with admission on the gate.

Kyles Athletic will be looking to retain the trophy they won last year when beating Inveraray 3-1 in the final.  They also have recent history on their side with today’s encounter being a repeat of the Kyles v Oban final in 2015 that Kyles won 4-2.  And having won the cup in 2014 and 2013 also Kyles are looking to maintain what is a vice-like grip on the trophy by making it five straight wins in a row.

For their part Oban Camanachd have not tasted success in the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup since they truimphed in the 2005 final.  But they face a tough task to take the spoils today against a Kyles Athletic side who are the form team in the country, currently top of the Premiership and unbeaten in 8 league matches.

Can Oban get revenge for the 2015 final and end their 12-year wait for Celtic Society Cup silverware, or will Kyles prove too strong?  All roads lead to Taynuilt Sports Field to find out as shinty’s oldest competition, first played in 1879, celebrates a 2017 finals day edition.

Route to the final: The semi-finals took place in mid-May and saw Kyles Athletic beat Glasgow Mid Argyll 3-0, while Oban Camanachd narrowly overcame last year’s finalists Inveraray by one goal to nil.

Throw up for the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final is at 4pm.

Admission on the gate.  Adults £10/£5 Children/U15s free.  Free parking.
