The road to UEFA Women’s Euro 2021 starts tonight for Scotland women’s football team as they take on Cyprus at Easter Road Stadium. Kick-off is at 7.35pm and tickets are available.
Just over two months have passed since Scotland crashed out of the Women’s World Cup in the most agonising of circumstances at the Parc des Princes. Seemingly in control against Argentina in their final Group D match, Shelly Kerr’s side managed to led a three-goal lead slip away in the last quarter of the match. Florencia Bonsegundo’s equaliser from the penalty spot coming deep into injury time consigned the Scots to the plane home from France instead of a place in the last-16.
With emotions running high strong words were spoken in the immediate aftermath, since when Scotland head coach Kerr has held clear the air talks with her squad. Now is the time for the team to come together as they begin their Euro qualifying campaign against Cyprus. Scotland are top seeds in Group E, which also includes Finland, Portugal and Albania.
The Scotland women’s football team are currently ranked at No22 in the world standings. Comparing that to Cyprus who are at No117 means the home side will start as hot favourites to win the match.
