Friday night netball at the Emirates Arena and Sirens host Severn Stars in their second home match of the new Vitality Netball Superleague season. Centre pass is at 7.30pm and tickets are available.
Sirens’ debut season in the top tier of UK club netball was a big success with the Glasgow side taking some impressive scalps and giving their new fans plenty of excitement in the process. And while a top-four finish, and with a place in Vitality Netball Superleague finals weekend, proved beyond the Sirens that is something that they have targeted for the 2018 season under new head coach Tanya Dearns.
After three matches on the road Sirens gave the Emirates Arena crowd – who provided noisy and enthusiastic support last season – a 45-40 win to savour over Team Northumbria in their first outing at home this season. And while Sirens lost out narrowly last weekend on the road to benecos Mavericks this evening the Glasgow side will be looking to make it two wins from two at the Emirates against a Severn Stars side who have yet to register a win so far this season.
The Sirens are owned by Netball Scotland who working in partnership with the University of the West of Scotland are determined to make a mark for women’s sport in Scotland as they make their second-season appearance in the Superleague. Comprised of 10 teams, the league runs until June during which all the sides will play each other home and away.
