The Edinburgh Sports Club Open 2018 gets underway with first round action in the women’s draw. Matches start at 6.15pm and admission is free for all spectators.
A feature event in the Scottish squash year and the biggest tournament on the BSPA calendar the Edinburgh Sports Club Open has once again attracted some world-class talent.
Tonight features the first round action in the women’s event which has been upgraded to a PSA $10k offering equal prize money to the men’s event, the latter starting on Friday.
The women’s draw has a strong Egyptian flavour with Nadine Shahin and Nada Abbas seeded to contest the final, with Lisa Aitken (main picture with fellow Scot Greg Lobban) leading the home charge. Other players to look out for include Scotland’s Georgia Adderley (who takes on world junior champion Rowan Elaraby in tonight’s first round) while defending champion Julianne Courtice is seeded sixth.
Aitken said: “This event marks my one year anniversary back on tour and it’s great to do that on home soil and have the local support.
“It is double the prize money and now equal with the men which is fantastic and it’s brilliant to see our country help drive equal prize money in our sport.”
The first match on court today at the Edinburgh Sports Club is at 6.15pm featuring No.1 seed Nadine Shahin with Lisa Aitken due on court at 7pm and the final match 8.35pm. This is the women’s draw in full including match timings.
Don’t miss this great opportunity to watch elite squash up close and personal in the capital. The tournament at Edinburgh Sports Club features the knockout stages of the women’s and men’s draw on Friday and semi-finals and final on Saturday and Sunday.
Start time today: 6.15pm.
Admission today is free for all spectators!
The tournament continues tomorrow with the quarter-finals in the women’s tournament and first and second round stages of the men’s tournament.
