Scottish Senior Nationals 2017

It’s Finals Day at the 2017 Scottish Squash Senior Nationals taking place at the Edinburgh Sports Club.   The premier event in the Scottish squash calendar has seen the best players in the country battling it out for national titles since Friday and now it’s D-Day.  And it’s free admission for spectators!

In the men’s draw Alan Clyne (main picture) is the number one seed and strong favourite to retain the title he won in 2016.  Clyne – who alongside fellow Scot Greg Lobban won the 2016 Men’s World Doubles Championship in Australia – faces competition this weekend from Douglas Kempsell (2), Kevin Moran (3) and the recently crowned Scottish U23 champion Rory Stewart (4).

The women’s competition will see a new winner as Claire Gadsby is not defending her title.  Scotland’s most promising squash prospect Georgia Adderley is a contender having reached the final last year and having impressed to claim the National Under-17 title in February.  Among those looking to challenge Adderley for the title are the recently crowned U23 champion Elspeth Young and U23 runner-up Katriona Allen (both pictured right) as well as Robyn Young.

There’s a double incentive for all the players taking part in the championships this year as not only are titles at stake, the outcome in both the men’s and women’s events will have a major influence on selection for the European Team Championships coming up at the end of April.

Play starts today at 1pm and continues through to circa 4.30pm.  The women’s final is at 2.50pm and the men’s final is at 3.30pm.

Admission is free for all spectators.  Early arrival is recommended
