CONGRATULATIONS to Izzy Fry who won February’s Podium 5k Battersea elite women’s race in a course record time of 15:17. Fry dramatically overhauled Eloise Walker(15:19) in the finishing straight, after the duo had broken clear of the main pack. Poppy Tank finished in third in 15:45. In the men’s elite race Charlie Wheeler took the spoils in a time of 13:48, finishing just ahead of Andrew Penney and Tom Graham-Marr, after the three of them had battled it out for supremacy over the final 400 metres.
FEBRUARY RACE PREVIEW
A big night of 5k racing is all set for the banks of the River Thames courtesy of a collaboration between SportsShoes Podium x Friday Night Under the Lights (FNUL) and Adidas. Starting at 7pm near the Bandstand in Battersea Park, an eagerly anticipated double-header of elite 5ks (women’s at 7.03pm and men’s at 7.35pm) will take centre stage. The Podium 5k Battersea races take place on a central two-lap course in the park.
Prizes are on the line in the elite races with the women’s and men’s winner set to pick up £1,000 each. Cash prizes are available to the first five runners in each race. There’s also a £1,000 bonus up for grabs in both races should a course record be broken. The current course records are:
Women – Charlotte Dannatt, 15:37 in Nov 2025. Men – Jack Kavanngh, 13:34 in Nov 2025.

PODIUM 5k BATTERSEA – ELITE 5k RACES
Women’s
The gun will go for the Women’s Elite 5k at 7.03pm. Olympian and 1500m specialist Katie Snowden is among the favourites as she steps up in distance. Snowden, who has represented Team GB at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and 2023 World Championships in Budapest, has a PB of 15:20 over 5k.
GB international Izzy Fry is the fastest athlete on paper in the field. Fry, who finished ninth in the 5000m at the 2024 European Championship, has a PB of 14:59 on the track. She is in great form having set a 10k road best of best of 31:01 in Valencia in January.
Eloise Walker (PB 15:23), Stephie Pennycook (15:43), Poppy Tank (PB 15:45), Holly Weedall (15:50) and Meg Gadsby (PB15:54) all have high hopes of a podium finish in a strong 5k field consisting of 11 women who have run 16 minutes or under.

Men’s
The Men’s Elite 5k at 7.35pm will have close on 75 runners on start line. A sub-14 minute run is essential to be in the mix. Battersea Park FNUL regular Joe Wigfield will fancy his chances after rounding off 2025 with first place in the Mizuno x Friday Night Under the Lights event on New Year’s Eve in a PB time of 13:36.50. Wigfield is in great form having recently equalled the British 10k road record with a time of 27:38 in Valencia.
Scottish star and two-time Olympian Andrew Butchart is enjoying a renaissance after missing the Paris Olympics due to a long-term injury. A finalist in the 5000m at both the Rio and Tokyo Olympics, Butchart is targeting a win in Battersea to springboard his bid to represent Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this summer. Will Butchart take the spoils? Charlie Wheeler, the fastest man in the field over 5k on the roads, with a PB of 13:35, will have something to say about that.
Adam Clarke, Will Battershill and Tom Graham-Marr (who share a PB of 13:39 over 5k) could all threaten the podium places.
