Sunday 27 July 2025 is a date that will live long in the memory after the Lionesses became the first ever senior England side to win a major tournament on foreign soil. England’s women met Spain in the final of EURO 2025 in a nail-biting match. Chloe Kelly scored the winning penalty for the Lionesses after the match had finished 1-1 after 90 minutes and extra time could not separate the sides.
England’s EURO 2025 victory was sweet revenge for the Women’s World Cup final in August 2023. On that occasion Olga Carmona’s first-half strike earned the Spaniards their first world title. The Lionesses had to settle for runner-up medals.
Tonight the sides lock horns in a FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifier. England and Spain are joined by Iceland and Ukraine in League A Group A3. The league phase will be played across six matchdays between March and June 2026. The four League A group winners will qualify directly for the finals next year in Brazil.
