INTRODUCING THE BOXERS
“Are you not entertained?!” shouted Daniel Dubois to over 90,000 fans at Wembley last September.Ā The fighter from Greenwich had just knocked out Anthony Joshua in devastating style in the fifth round of their all-British world heavyweight title showdown
27-year-old Dubois is the IBF heavyweight champion.Ā Usyk, from Ukraine, is the WBA (Super), WBO and WBC belt holder after back-to-back masterclass performances against Tyson Fury in 2024.Ā He subsequently had to vacate the IBF belt that Dubois now holds.
When Dubois first met Usyk in Poland in August 2023, the Ukrainian retained his world title with a ninth-round stoppage.Ā But not before controversy over a punch landed by Dubois in the fifth round.Ā Usyk was dropped and took time to recover after the punch was ruled as a low blow.Ā Many observers thought it was a legal strike.
Undefeated in 23 fights, Usyk is closing in on retirement.Ā He’s already been crowned undisputed champion at cruiserweight and heavyweight during an illustrious career.Ā Should he agree terms with Dubois, Usyk will have a chance to become the undisputed heavyweight champion once again before riding off into the sunset and assured of his place in the boxing ‘Hall of Fame’.
No British fighter has held the undisputed heavyweight title in the four-belt era.Ā The last Briton to be undisputed heavyweight champion was Lennox Lewis in 1999.Ā Will Dubois get the opportunity to make his mark in boxing history?Ā Stay tuned to find out!
UNDERCARD
The chief support bout features Londonās Lawrence Okolie.Ā Okolie was previously a cruiserweight world champion and is now campaigning at heavyweight.Ā Okolie is taking on the South African Kevin Lerena (who fought Dubois in December 2022 and had him down prior to being stopped) for the WBC Silver heavyweight belt.Ā The winner will move themselves closer to a world title shot either later this year or in 2026.
The penultimate undercard fight features British and Commonwealth light-heavyweight champion Lewis Edmondson against another unbeaten fighter in Ukraineās Daniel Lapin.
Also confirmed for the undercard is the super-lightweight prospect Aadam Hamed.Ā Son of Hall of Famer ‘Prince’ Naseem Hamed, unbeaten Aadam Hamed will look to extend his record to six straight wins against Argentina’s Ezequiel Gregores.
