UCI Track Cycling World Cup

Day 2 of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Glasgow and the GB cycling team line up against the rest of the world on home soil for the first time since the Rio Olympics.

The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome hosts a sporting treat as the Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup returns to Scotland.  The first world cup action on home soil since 2012 a great atmosphere is guaranteed at the iconic venue which hosted track cycling during the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

UCI Track Cycling World Cup scheduleBetween 4th to 6th November there are two sessions a day (morning and evening) with qualifying in the morning and medals decided in the evening.  Full details of the schedule can be viewed in the adjacent visual.

Ones to watch: The GB team contains a certain Katie Archibald who is sure to receive a fantastic welcome from her home crowd.  Archibald, who grew up in Milngavie, is a bona fide international star having returned from Rio with an Olympic gold medal in the women’s pursuit.  Not satisfied with that she landed two titles (and a silver) at the recent European Championships in Paris and then produced a mercurial display at last week’s Six Day London event to triumph in the women’s omnium.

Joining Archibald in the women’s endurance line up for GB  are the European team pursuit bronze medallists, Emily Kay, Danni Khan, Manon Lloyd and Emily Nelson.  Two of the quartet, Kay and Nelson, also took home silver in the women’s madison in Paris, demonstrating the kind of form that will stand them in good stead to face the world-class field due to take part in Glasgow.

In the men’s sprint GB is represented by a hat-trick of young talent, Ryan Owens, Joe Truman and Jack Carlin who are fresh from their silver medal at the Europeans, an impressive performance at their first elite championships.  For Carlin, who hails from Paisley, it promises to be an extra special occasion racing in front of a home crowd at a world-class event for the first time.

In the men’s endurance world individual pursuit bronze medallist Andy Tennant makes a welcome return to the Great Britain squad, after impressing in the Revolution Series for Team Wiggins.  Kian Emadi, Ollie Wood and Mark Stewart (the latter from Dundee finalising a trio of Scottish cyclists in action) complete the men’s endurance line up after strong performances in Paris at the European championships, including a team pursuit bronze.
