2015 World Gymnastics Championships

2015 World Gymnastics Championships

The final day of action from the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships is the cue for second day of individual apparatus finals followed by the Closing Ceremony.

The crowds have enjoyed some enthralling action so far at The SSE Hydro where over 590 gymnasts from almost 90 countries have been twisting, turning and vaulting in search of championship glory.  This is the first time in 112 years the World Championships has been hosted in Scotland.  The event is a unique opportunity to watch the finest artistic gymnasts from around the globe competing in Glasgow.

This afternoon will decide who are the individual champions in the parallel bars, vault and horizontal bar in the men’s event, and the floor and beam in the women’s at the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships.

This is the full list of women who will be competing in the floor and beam finals.  On the floor look out for Claudia Fragapane (main picture) who was the star at last year’s Glasgow Commonwealth Games winning four gold medals.  Competing for Team GB Fragapane will be aiming for a world title medal tonight in what is her favourite event.  GB’s Ellie Downie cannot be ruled out either but both will have to get the better of USA’s multi-world champion Simone Biles who starts as the favourite in both the floor and the beam events.

For the men the full list includes Team GB’s up-and-coming star Nile Wilson who has qualified for the parallel bars final, while in the horizontal bars all eyes will be on Japan’s Kohei Uchimura, is a sporting wonder who has five Olympic medals to his name and who on Friday was bidding to make it six consecutive world titles in the men’s all-around event.

Doors open today at 12 noon with the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships action commencing from 1pm.
