Bell’s Sports Centre in Perth is the place to be this weekend to watch the finest Scottish gymnastics compete in the 2016 Scottish National Artistic Championships. A host of stars are due to compete at this year’s championships as the road to Rio and the 2018 Commonwealth Games continues for Scottish gymnasts.
Spectators are set to be thrilled by a host of talented gymnasts which includes World, European and Commonwealth competitors. The battle for the senior men’s Scottish titles will be close with a number of gymnasts capable of taking the glory. Team GB world medallist Daniel Purvis returns to Scotland aiming to claim his third successive Scottish senior men’s title. Team mate Frank Baines will be aiming to push him all the way and gets his year off to a flying start.
The senior women’s artistic category includes three of the gymnasts who competed for Scotland at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Amy Regan will be looking to once again take the senior crown while Erin McLachlan will also be aiming for a podium finish.
This years championships will also provide the chance to see Scotland’s rising stars and future team Scotland commonwealth hopefuls in action, as our younger gymnasts take to the floor. With over 100 in total of Scotland’s most talented gymnasts in action, it’s set to be a weekend of thrilling gymnastics action. And as an added bonus spectator have the opportunity to watch international gymnasts from Sweden and Ireland compete as guests.
Today the Individual Apparatus medals will be won as the top six gymnasts on each piece of apparatus from Saturday (which featured the All Around Finals) battle it out for the titles. Check out this promotional video for a flavour of the action in store.
Doors open 10.45am. Action starts today at 11am through until 4pm.
