The waiting is finally over and the stage is set at the Emirates Arena for the opening day of the 2017 Badminton World Championships. Stand by for seven days of of world-class badminton as the best players on the planet compete for the title of No.1 in the world. Matches start at 11am and tickets are available.
The world’s fastest racquet sport never fails to deliver superb spectator action and over the next week the Glasgow crowds are set for a treat with badminton’s showcase event taking place in the superb surroundings of the Emirates Arena.
Play starts today at 11am with action on 5 different courts continuing into the evening including qualifying matches across all five competition, namely the women’s singles and doubles, men’s singles and doubles, and the mixed doubles. This is today’s full order of play.

Martin Campbell and Julie Macpherson will begin the Scottish charge at the TOTAL BWF World Championships. The mixed double’s pair are third on court one against the Swedish duo of Nico Ruponen and Amanda Hogstrom.
Kieran Merrilees, the five-times Scottish National champion will be on court one after 3pm in the men’s singles when he faces Chinese badminton legend and two-time Olympic gold medallist Lin Dan in the tenth match of the day, with England’s Rajiv Ouseph on two contests later.
The Scottish pair of Rebekka Findlay and Caitlin Pringle follow Ouseph in the schedule, though their match against France’s Emilie Lefel and Anne Tran won’t be before 5pm.
Elsewhere on day one, England’s Fontaine Chapman is seventh on court two for her first round match against Luise Heim of Germany while Ben Lane and Jessica Pugh begin their campaign third on court three. The English mixed double’s pair face Netherlands’ Robin Tabeling and Cheryl Seinen while Chloe Birch is eighth on court four against India’s Tanvi Lad.
Matches start at 11am continuing through till this evening.
