GAA Miler Meet ‘Night of the 10ks’

The first outdoor GAA Miler Meet of the season is a big one incorporating the Scottish National 10,000m Championships.  Taking place at Crownpoint Sports Complex the action starts from 6.15pm and admission is on the gate.

This ‘Night of the 10ks’ has attracted another strong entry and a great night of 10,000m racing is in prospect starting at 6.15pm and concluding with the ‘A’ race at 8.25pm.  Read on for a preview courtesy of the scottishathletics website.

This annual Glasgow Athletics Association (GAA) meet has hosted the the Scottish Champs over 10k for the last three years which has been the catalyst for a revival in the distance that sees a record 80 entries for tonight’s races.

Four races over the 25-lap distance are scheduled in total, with the first at 6.15pm, and there can be little argument that the GAA Miler Meet formats are proving a great template for an ‘Event Specific’ approach for athletics in Scotland and scottishathletics supports those principles (with the GAA Sprint Gala coming up, too).

National XC silver medallist, Kris Jones of Dundee Hawkhill, is among the top-ranked men with the start-lists also including the likes of Michael Christoforou, Scott Stirling, Calum McKenzie and Will Mackay.  The women’s medals could be contested by the likes of Annabel Simpson, Halina Rees, Nikki Gibson, Michelle Sandison and Suzanne Gilmour.  Masters championship medals are also on offer from Vet 35 upwards (in five-year age bands).

These are the full start lists and timetable.  There is a £200 ‘prize pot’ available to the overall fastest male and female runner, if they break the following target times: M – 31:00. W – 35:30.

First race at 6.15pm.

Admission on the night: £3 for adults ~ U16s & athletes/coaches free.
