🏅 It’s athletics, but not as you know it, as Podium Underground returns to the capital on Friday 5 September. Spectating is free!
A halcyon year of athletics continues as the Podium 5k team bring their unique underground racing event back to Canary Wharf this September. What better way to get in the mood for the 2025 World Athletics Championships starting in Tokyo on Saturday 13 September than a night out at Podium Underground? We can’t think of one!
Taking place at Capital Karts, the UK’s fastest indoor go-karting track, over 100 athletes are set to race at Podium Underground. Based on the 2024 event, a total prize pot of £10,000 will be at stake. The men’s and women’s event have a prize fund of £5,000 each, with the individual champions receiving £1,000 each.
Starting at 6.30pm (tbc) racing takes place over 4 laps of the track (3000m per race) with four heats in the men’s event followed by two men’s and two women’s semi-finals. The event reaches a crescendo with the women’s final followed by the men’s final at around 9pm followed by the presentations.
In 2024, GB star Erin Wallace took home the £1,000 first prize in the women’s final. Holly Dixon finished in second place. The full one, two, three was completed by Megan Davies. Dixon and Davies received £500 and £250 respectively.
In the men’s final, Tyler Bilyard reigned supreme in the chase for the finish line and £1,000 first prize, holding off the challenge of Morgan McDonald . The podium was completed by Solomon Okrafo in third place.
Buckle up for the 2025 edition. The action will be fast and furious with no less than 10 races over three hours. All to a backdrop of music pumping and with refreshments available from a bar on site.

Travel tips: Capital Karts is a 1-minute walk from Canary Wharf DLR station and a 5-minute walk from Canary Wharf stations on the Jubilee Line (tube) and Crossrail. The entrance is located in Cabot Place shopping centre (lift behind Brera on ground level.
