2025 RESULTS

CONGRATULATIONS to Abbie Donnelly who won the The London 5000 Elite Women’s Race in a time of 15:32.90.  After the pacers dropped out a pack of six were left to battle for the podium places over the last mile.  Coming into the last lap the lead group was down to three.  Donnelly, Georgie Grgec and Eloise Walker.  And in a frantic sprint finish it was Donnelly who came out on top, with Grgec (15:33.14) and Walker (15:33.25) in second and third place respectively.

The Elite Men’s Race featured Olympic triathlon gold medallist Alex Yee on pacing duties.  Jacob Cann was the long-time leader, but with 700m to go pre-race favourite Phil Sesemann (pictured below at the back of the chasing pack) surged to the front.  The 2:06 marathon runner showed his 1500m credentials with a turn of foot the field could not match.  After a solo effort in the closing two laps, Sesemann won comfortably in a time of 13:36.49.  Cam Allan (13:49.34) was second with Abdinasir Mohamoud Elmi (13:50.98) making up the podium places.  Cann finished in sixth place.

ONES TO WATCH IN THE A RACES

Already confirmed for the Women’s A race is Phily Bowden who has a 5,000m PB of 15:22.84.  Bowden returns to the Highgate track where she ran 32:26.25 at last year’s Night of the 10,000m.  Joining Bowden on the women’s elite race start line is European cross bronze medallist Abbie Donnelly, fresh from a 2:26:21 marathon debut in Rotterdam.  Donnelly has a 5k PB of 15:18, set in March.  Comeback 5000 winner India Weir is a real threat is she can replicate her 5,000m PB which stands at 15:35.93.  Weir is joined by fellow Hoka runner and Team Makou athlete Sarah Astin.  Astin has a 5,000m PB of 15:54.

In the Men’s A race, Olympian Phil Sesemann will start as one of the favourites.  The fastest doctor on earth has a 5,000m PB of 13:34.73 and was 20th at this year’s London Marathon in a time of 2:14:46.  Zak Mahamad is a man with serious track credentials with a PB of 13:24.08 in the 5,000m and 27:46.55 in the 10,000m.  The latter was set in Highgate in May 2024 and saw him selected to run the 10,000 metres for Britain at the 2024 European Athletics Championships in Rome.  Fresh from second-placed finish and big PB of 13:33.46 at May’s Comeback 5000, Cam Allan is a live contender for the podium places in the men’s elite race.

The Men’s A race will be paced (aiming at a 13:25 clocking) by none other than Alex Yee.  The triathlon superstar and gold medallist from the Paris 2024 Olympics returns to the track where he won the Night of the 10k PBs in 2018.
