Edinburgh Championships

The 2016 Scottish Beach Volleyball Championships are off and running today with the Edinburgh Championships taking place at Portobello Beach.

The Edinburgh Championships is the first tournament of a summer that will showcase the best of Scotland’s best beach volleyball players as they take part in this popular annual series.  Players will gather points across all 5 tour dates with the overall winners to be crowned at the end of the season in August.

For a flavour of what to expect today take a look at this highlights reel from the CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup which held at Portobello in 2014.

This weekend will see a lot of the national teams in action, all fighting it out for all-important ranking points.  Alongside over 35 junior teams have entered the tour which is a massive increase on last year and a reflection of the development work Scottish Volleyball is doing at grass-roots level.

Today’s action features men, women’s and junior pairs all playing for points, with the senior pairs playing for coveted FIVB world ranking points as well as beach tour points.  With 2 men’s divisions, 2 women’s divisions and under 18, 16 & 14 boys and girls divisions there’s a court for all levels and will make this the biggest tour weekend yet.

Refreshments, food and music will accompany the beach volleyball at the Edinburgh Championships making it a great day out for all the family!

Matches start at 10am.

Admission is free to all spectators.

The 2016 Scottish Beach Volleyball Championships continue on 2nd & 3rd July with the St Andrews Championships at West Sands in St Andrews.
