St Andrews Championships

The 2016 Scottish Beach Volleyball tour continues this weekend with the the St Andrews Championships taking place at West Sands, St Andrews.

The St Andrews Championships is one of the stand-out legs of a tour that showcases Scotland’s best beach volleyball players.  For a flavour of what to expect take a look at this highlights reel from the CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup held at Portobello in 2014.

Today’s action features men, women’s and junior pairs all playing for points, with the senior pairs playing for coveted FIVB world ranking points as well as beach tour points.  Alongside over 35 junior teams have entered the tour, a massive increase on last year and a reflection of the development work Scottish Volleyball is doing at grass-roots level.  Players will gather points across all 5 tour dates with the overall winners to be crowned at the end of the season in August.

Taking place adjacent to the 18th hole of the Old Course and in full view of the Royal and Ancient Clubhouse, the iconic West Sands beach makes for a superb setting to the volleyball action at the St Andrews leg of the Scottish Tour.  And the fun doesn’t stop after the tournament with players and spectators alike encouraged to enjoy a beach party!

Matches start at 10am.

Admission is free to all spectators.

Car parking is available at the beach, which is also accessible via a 15 minute walk from the town centre.

The 2016 Scottish Beach Volleyball Championships continue on 16th and 17th July with the Broughty Championships.
