🏏 A big summer of international cricket continues with England v South Africa at The Oval in their third and final Test match of the summer. See below for the latest ticket information.
England look to build on a bright new dawn this week after the promise shown in the Test series against New Zealand earlier this summer and the delayed fifth Test against India. Having been outplayed in Australia over the winter in The Ashes – the series ending 4-0 in the hosts’ favour – followed by a 1-0 defeat on tour in the West Indies in March, England’s men got back to winning ways in red-ball cricket against New Zealand under the leadership of new captain Ben Stokes.
A win at Lord’s followed by a stunning victory at Trent Bridge in the second Test, courtesy of Jonny Bairstow’s sensational century was completed at Headingley with another victory in the third Test. And Bairstow continued his superb form against India at Edgbaston in July, partnering up with Joe Root to chase down a daunting 378 to win the match in the delayed series decider between the sides.
With a 3-0 series win against New Zealand and the victory against India in the record books the summer action goes up a notch for England with a series of matches against South Africa. The Proteas play three ODIs and T20 matches against England ahead of a three-match Test series which started at Lord’s in August and concludes with this week’s third Test at The Oval.
Ben Stokes will continue to lead England after his appointment as the new captain in April, taking over from Joe Root who remains a key asset in England’s batting line-up. Under Stokes and new Test coach Brendon McCullum, England have embraced an attacking form of Test cricket this summer, none more so than Jonny Bairstow. All eyes will be on the Yorkshire star after his mesmerising form with the bat, including an extraordinary knock of 136 in 92 balls against New Zealand at Trent Bridge, on the final day of the second Test against the Kiwis. An innings that catapulted England to a barely believable five-wicket victory.
