(M) County Championship: Surrey v Durham ~ Tuesday 17 September to Friday 20 September

🏏 Champions Surrey take on Durham at The Kia Oval with the hosts looking for a win to stay top of the LV= Insurance County Championship Division One table.  See below for the latest ticket information.

Surrey are at the business end of the current County Championship season with a hat-trick on their minds.  Last summer the Division One title race went to the wire when the Three Feathers successfully saw off the threat of Essex to defend the title they won in 2022.  Surrey County Cricket Club tickets are on sale now.

The last time the Kia Oval side won back-to-back Division One titles was 1999-2000.  This season history beckons if they can bring up an unprecedented three titles in a row.  And it’s nerve-wracking if promising for Surrey who are top of the table with just two matches remaining.

This week’s game against Durham sees County Championship action return to the Oval  with Surrey licking their wounds after a dramatic defeat to title rivals Somerset.  The SE11 side were in control at Taunton, with match heading for a draw, but a collapse on the final day gave Somerset the win to keep alive their hopes of a first ever County Championship title.

Somerset are second in the table on 190 points, just eight points behind top-of-the-table Surrey.  Both sides have two more games remaining.

SURREY COUNTY CRICKET CLUB – NEXT MATCH BUILD-UP

Surrey need calm heads as they head into a showdown with Durham.  The four-day showdown starts on Tuesday 17 September.  Batting stalwart Dom Sibley and Rory Burns could be the key men to calm the Surrey nerves and they’ll look to score big on home soil.

Surrey are currently at the Division One summit with Somerset breathing down their necks.  Following this week’s match against Durham, Surrey head to Chelmsford to face Essex in their final game of the season.

ONES TO WATCH

Captain Rory Burns and Vice Captain Dom Sibley (who make a formidable opening pair with the bat) lead a strong nucleus of experienced players in the Surrey team this season.  Joining them from Essex is Dan Lawrence, who is aiming to impress with the bat for the Three Feathers and force himself into the England team reckoning.  Overseas stars Sean Abbott and Kemar Roach return to SE11 for another campaign.

Ten teams in total feature in Division One.  Surrey are joined by Essex, Durham, Hampshire, Kent, Northamptonshire, Lancashire, Somerset, Worcestshire  and Warwickshire.
