(M) County Championship: Surrey v Essex ~ Sunday 30 June to Wednesday 3 July

🏏 Champions Surrey take on high-flying Essex at The Kia Oval with the hosts looking for a win to extend their lead at the top of the LV= Insurance County Championship Division One table.  See below for the latest ticket information.

Surrey are back for another season of County Championship action with a hat-trick on their minds.  Last summer the Division One title race went to the wire when the Three Feathers successfully saw off the threat of Essex to defend the title they won in 2022.  Surrey County Cricket Club tickets are on sale now.

The last time the Kia Oval side won back-to-back Division One titles was 1999-2000.  This season history beckons if they can bring up an unprecedented three titles in a row.  And it’s so far so good for Surrey who are top of the table after their opening six matches.

This week’s game against Essex sees County Championship action return to the Oval for the first time since mid-May.  Surrey turn their attention to the Vitality Blast in July, with County Championship action returning in SE11 with a four-day showdown against Lancashire starting on Thursday 22 August.

SURREY COUNTY CRICKET CLUB – NEXT MATCH BUILD-UP

Surrey head into a showdown with Essex in fine form after thumping victories over Warwickshire and Worcestershire.  The champions beat Worcestershire by 281 runs after a nine-wicket victory over Warwickshire, with Dom Sibley finishing unbeaten on 46.   Those wins followed an equally impressive performance against Hampshire who were defeated by an innings and 11 runs.  Don Worrall starred with impressive figures of five for 47 on the final day.  Meanwhile Ollie Pope, with eight catches in total, equalled the Surrey record for most outfield catches in a first-class match.

The win against Worcestershire kept Surrey at the Division One summit after four wins and two draws from their opening six matches.  The Oval side are on 114 points, 18 points ahead of second-placed Somerset.  Essex, their opponents this week, are third in the table on 92 points.

ONES TO WATCH

Captain Rory Burns and Vice Captain Dom Sibley (who make a formidable opening pair with the bat) lead a strong nucleus of experienced players in the Surrey team this season.  Joining them from Essex is Dan Lawrence, who is aiming to impress with the bat for the Three Feathers and force himself into the England team reckoning.  Overseas stars Sean Abbott and Kemar Roach return to SE11 for another campaign.

Ten teams in total feature in Division One.  Surrey are joined by Essex, Durham, Hampshire, Kent, Northamptonshire, Lancashire, Somerset, Worcestshire  and Warwickshire.
