(M) Vitality Blast: Surrey v Somerset

🏏 The 2024 Vitality Blast season has lift-off for Surrey at The Kia Oval courtesy of a Sunday showdown against Somerset.  The match is part of a double-header also featuring South East Stars versus Southern Vipers in the Charlotte Edwards Cup.

All T20 roads lead to The Kia Oval this week to see Surrey in Vitality Blast action.  The competition returns for 2024 with Surrey set to play seven home games at The Oval between Sunday 2 June to Thursday 18 July including a huge London derby against Middlesex on Friday 5 July.

Today’s opening fixture against Somerset is part of a double-header also featuring South East Stars against Southern Vipers in the Charlotte Edwards Cup.

Surrey assembled an exciting squad for their 2023 campaign (see below for the competition format).  Featuring the likes of 2022 T20 World Cup winners Sam Curran and Chris Jordan as well as international stars Jason Roy and Reece Topley.  The side based at The Oval will be aiming to retain the nucleus of their star players for the 2024 season.

🚊🚗 Travel tips: Public transport is recommended as the easiest way to get to the Kia Oval.  Oval tube station on the Northern Line is a 100 metre walk to the ground.  Alternatively, Vauxhall tube station on the Victoria line is a 10-minute walk.  Vauxhall railway station is also a 10-minute walk accessible from Waterloo, Clapham Junction and Southern Western Railway routes.  Plan your journey at the Transport for London website.

COMPETITION FORMAT

About the Vitality Blast: The Vitality Blast is English domestic cricket’s 20 overs a side competition.  Between Thursday 30 May to Friday 19 July 2024 the round robin stage sees each of the nine sides in the North Group and South Group (all 18 first-class counties take part) play 14 group games, seven at home and seven away.

The top four teams in each pool progress to the quarter-finals in early September.  The winners of the North Group face the fourth-placed team in the South Group in the last eight.  And so on and so forth.

The winners of the quarter-finals advance to Finals Day at Edgbaston on Saturday 14 September.

Matches follow the standard T20 format.  Bowlers are allotted four overs each max.  In each innings the first six overs are the powerplay with no more than two fielders allowed outside the 30-yard circle.

Vitality Blast 2024 South Group.  Surrey are joined by Essex Eagles, Glamorgan, Gloucestershire, Hampshire Hawks, Kent Spitfires, Middlesex, Somerset and Sussex Sharks.
