Surrey Stars v Western Storm

The defending champions against the league leaders.  It’s Stars v Storm in the Kia Super League with a win essential for the hosts.  Tickets are on sale for a family day featuring plenty of entertainment off the pitch to complement the cricket.

Surrey Stars are the team to beat this year having been crowned the KSL champions after a thrilling 2018 season.  Lead by captain and England international Nat Sciver and with a line-up featuring a mix of youth and experience the challenge is on for the Surrey side to become the first team to win the title in consecutive seasons

So far it’s been a roller coaster ride for the Stars with two wins and four losses (and one no result) leaving them fourth in the table with a top-three finish required if they are to make it through to Finals Day.  Making today’s match a must-win for the hosts.

Meanwhile it’s been plain sailing for Western Storm who are looking to make it to Finals Day for a fourth year in a row.  Eight wins on the spin has already guaranteed their place in the final and don’t expect Storm to take their foot off the gas this afternoon as they seek a perfect ’10 out of 10′ record from the league stages.

On a special family day of sport alongside the cricket there’s plenty of other entertainment for the family including coaching sessions, meet and greet with players, ballsportz and face painting.

Today’s match in Guildford is the penultimate match of the round-robin stage with Finals Day set for Hove on 1 September.

Ones to watch: Surrey Stars Laura Marsh.  The England international was Player of the Match in the Star opening match of the season against Yorkshire Diamonds taking three wickets at a cost of just seventeen runs.  Marsh’s ability to take early Storm wickets could be key.  And in batter Lizelle Lee, the Stars have an attacking player who has helped South Africa become one of the world’s top teams.  Meanwhile England captain Heather Knight and team-mate Anya Shrubsole are both part of a an experienced Western Storm squad that includes last year’s leading run-scorer Smriti Mandhana who has again been in the runs as Storm continue their unbeaten run.

Match starts at 2.30pm.
