Surrey Stars are the team to beat this year having been crowned the KSL champions after a thrilling 2018 season. Lead by captain and England international Nat Sciver and with a line-up featuring a mix of youth and experience the challenge is on for the Surrey side to become the first team to win the title in consecutive seasons
The new KSL season started last Tuesday for Surrey Stars with an away win at Headingley against Yorkshire Diamonds which they followed up with a comprehensive 8-wicket win over Lancashire Thunder at Woodbridge Road in Guildford. In a ten-match KSL season the Stars have five home matches in all with tonight’s match against Southern Vipers the only one taking place at the Kia Oval.
Southern Vipers got their campaign underway in impressive style last week with a comprehensive win over Lancashire Thunder in Liverpool. Tammy Beaumont and Danni Wyatt did the damage with a second-wicket partnership of 100. Vipers followed that up with a 2-wicket win over Loughborough Lightning but will be looking to bounce back from Sunday’s home defeat to Western Storm.
Ones to watch: Surrey Stars Laura Marsh. The England international was Player of the Match in the Star opening match of the season against Yorkshire Diamonds taking three wickets at a cost of just seventeen runs. Meanwhile Tammy Beaumont, newly installed as Southern Vipers captain, could be the different between the sides if she repeats her form last week against Lancashire Thunder where she scored 53 off 33 ball including five sixes.
Match starts at 6.30pm.
