The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup begins on Friday 12 June.  12 teams – the largest ever in the Women’s T20 World Cup – will vie for the prestigious title.  Showcasing the best of the global women’s game, a total of 33 matches will take place across seven venues.

Edgbaston, Hampshire Bowl, Headingley, Old Trafford Cricket Ground, and Bristol County Ground will host matches.  Alongside two venues in London.  The iconic Oval ground in SE11 and the Home of Cricket, Lord’s

A total of 7 matches will take place in the capital.  These include both semi-finals at The Oval on Tuesday 30 June and Thursday 2 July respectively.  Followed by the final at Lord’s on Sunday 5 July.  The same venue which hosted the thrilling final of the 50-over ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup between England and India in 2017 in front of a sell-out crowd.

COMPETITION FORMAT

New Zealand are the defending champions.  They defeated South Africa in the 2024 final by 32 runs.

Eight teams have already secured their sports for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.  Hosts England, Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies.  Four additional teams will join them via a qualifying tournament later this year.

The 12 teams will be split into two groups of six for the group stages.  The top two teams in each group advance to the knockout stage.  The last two teams remaining standing will head to Lord’s for a final showdown.

ICC Chair Jay Shah said on the announcement of the venues: “The confirmation of venues represents a defining moment as we build towards the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.  This tournament will bring together the world’s finest players in a celebration of skill, spirit and sportsmanship.

“The United Kingdom’s rich diversity has always shown passionate support for all teams, something we witnessed so memorably at past events.  The sell-out Women’s Cricket World Cup final at Lord’s in 2017 remains a landmark in the rise of the women’s game, and I cannot think of a more fitting stage for the final.

“As we turn our focus to preparing for the tournament, we are excited by the promise of thrilling T20 action that will not only captivate fans here but also serve as a showcase for cricket’s return on the Olympic stage in Los Angeles 2028.”
