The 2017 battle for Scottish speedway bragging rights continues at the Armadale Stadium with Edinburgh Monarchs v Glasgow Tigers. It’s tapes-up 7.30pm as the arch rivals lock horns in the SGB Championship and tickets are available.
These two teams meet for the second time this year in the league at Armadale – last time out, back in May, they could not be split the match ending 45-45. And this time around there’s an added edge with both teams in search of points to secure a top-four Championship finish and a place in the end of season play-offs.
Edinburgh Monarchs enjoyed a profitable weekend in the Championship last week just when they needed it. A double-header of home victories (seeing off Workington Comets and Ipswich Witches on the same night) was followed by a memorable come-from-behind win at Scunthorpe Scorpions, the Parsons Peebles Monarchs prevailing 49-41 having been 23-31 down. That left the Monarchs third in the league, and looking for a top-four finish that will ensure a place in the play-offs.
Tonight’s opposition Glasgow Tigers are fourth in the table at the time of writing, just 1 point behind Edinburgh Monarchs albeit with two matches in hand. Hence they’ll also be keen to secure maximum points tonight to secure their place in the play-offs with Redcar Bears in fifth place a threat to both Edinburgh and Glasgow if they slip up.
It’s all set up for a Scottish derby to savour with bragging rights and qualification for the SGB Championship play-offs on the line. Edinburgh Monarchs v Glasgow Tigers. Who will be top speedway dog? All roads lead to Armadale Stadium to find out!
