All eyes will be on the action in south-east London today as two of top one-day sides in the world go head-to-head for the first of five 50-over matches in eleven days. The series has extra importance with the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 due to start on 30 May when both of these teams will start a six-week mission to topple defending champions Australia in pursuit of the ultimate 50-over trophy in cricket.
England are currently the No1 side on the ICC ODI rankings while Pakistan are No1 on the corresponding T20 rankings. Both will be itching to seize the initiative in their opening clash of the summer.
England’s 17-man ODI squad: Eoin Morgan, Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Tom Curran, Joe Denly, Chris Jordan, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, James Vince, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.
Ones to watch: In-form Hampshire batsman James Vince whose brilliant early-season form – including a career-high 190 against Gloucestershire – saw him added to the England squad last week.
