European Beach Volleball

European Beach Volleyball Championships

A huge weekend of beach volleyball action on Portobello Beach in Edinburgh starts this evening with action from the European Beach Volleyball Championships.  Matches from 5pm, spectating is free.

Portobello Beach is the place to be over the next three days for a celebration of beach volleyball in Scotland, ahead of the sports inclusion in the Commonwealth Games for the first time on the Gold Coast in 2018.

Starting this evening with a men’s European Beach Volleyball event, on Saturday the Queen’s Baton Relay will be visiting during the afternoon.  In addition the Scottish Beach Volleyball National Tour Finals are taking place with recreational events on Saturday and the 2v2 National Tour on Sunday, the latter featuring Scotland women’s No.1 pair Lynne Beattie & Mel Coutts who will be playing as part of their preparations to qualify for the Commonwealth Games.

Tonight all eyes will be on Scotland’s Senior Men, Seain Cook and Robin Miedzybrodzki, who are competing in the European event with world ranking points available.  Cook and Miedzybrodzki are on a mission to collect as many points as possible to contribute to their world ranking as they attempt to qualify for next year’s Commonwealth Games, so they would love your support tonight to cheer them on.

Matches start at 5pm.

Admission is free to all spectators.
