Betfred Cup Final

2017 Betfred Cup Final. Motherwell v Celtic

Motherwell and Celtic go head-to-head at Hampden Park in the Betfred Cup final to decide the destination of the first major silverware of the 2017/2018 season.

It’s been 26 long years since Motherwell won some major silverware, 1991 to be precise when they appeared in the Scottish Cup Final.  And the Steelmen will be hoping history repeats itself and they can pull off the sort of performance that saw them overcome Dundee United 4-3 AET.

But make no mistake it’s a mighty task Motherwell face this afternoon, taking on Brendan Rodgers’ all-conquering Celtic side who have gone an incredible 64 domestic games unbeaten and who are the current holders of the trophy.

The Bhoys will start as hot favourites but if Motherwell cannot be ruled out and Saturday’s 2-0 road win over second-placed Aberdeen in the Premiership was the perfect preparation to face the league leaders in a knockout scenario.

Route to Hampden Park: In the semi-finals Celtic defeated Hibernian 4-2 while Motherwell beat Rangers 2-0 the following day.

Kick-off for the 2017 Betfred Cup Final is at 3pm.
