Hibernian v Dundee United at Easter Road

When the fixture list for the Championship was released ahead of this season the first meeting of the Hibees and the Tangerines was one of the first fixtures everyone looked out for.  It pits two sides who will, or should be, promotion contenders come the end of the season.

Hibernian will be the happier of the two sides with the start they have made to this season; with the 2-1 loss to Ayr United two weeks ago their first league defeat of the season. However, the stalemate with Queen of the South last time out has left them still trailing the Palmerston Park side by one point.

United, on the other hand, exacted revenge on Morton – who had only just knocked them out of the Betfred Cup – with a 2-1 victory last Saturday.  Ray McKinnon’s men have had an inconsistent start to the season but three points last weekend mean they trail league leaders Queen of the South by six points, sitting just outside the play-off places.

It has been just a matter of months since the two sides went head-to-head in the Scottish Cup semi-final, with Hibs winning via a penalty shoot-out on their way to winning their first Scottish Cup in 114 years. It has been hard to separate the teams in recent meetings, however, with two wins apiece and three draws in their last seven meetings.

It should be an interesting affair at Easter Road today and the outcome could have an impact on how the rest of the season plays out for both sides.
