England v Uruguay

⚽️ England make their final preparations for the FIFA 2026 World Cup with a send-off series at Wembley Stadium against Uruguay on Friday 27 March followed by Japan on Tuesday 31 March.  Read on for a preview and the latest ticket information.

It was so near yet so far in July 2024 when England lost 2-1 to Spain in the final of EURO 2024, to follow their penalty shootout defeat to Italy in the EURO 2020 final which denied England men at Wembley Stadium a first major international trophy since 1966.  And in between the sense of déjà vu continued in Qatar in December 2022.  Gareth Southgate’s side went out of the FIFA World Cup losing 2-1 to champions France at the quarter-final stage.

Onwards and upwards a new era under former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has started brightly.  England topped Group K in World Cup qualifying.  A perfect record of 8 wins from eight matches was completed in November 2025 with a 2-0 win away to Albania.

The FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States of America awaits this summer.  England are in Group L alongside Croatia, Ghana and Panama.  Before that, Thomas Tuchel’s side have a send-off series at Wembley with matches against Uruguay on Friday 27 March and Japan on Tuesday 31 March.

Can England make it back-to-back wins under the famous arch en route to the World Cup?  All roads lead to the home of football to find out!
