It was so near yet so far in July 2021 when a penalty shootout defeat to Italy in the EURO 2020 final denied the England men at Wembley Stadium a first major international trophy since 1966. And the sense of déjà vu continued in Qatar in December 2022 as Gareth Southgate’s side went out of the FIFA World Cup losing 2-1 to champions France at the quarter-final stage.
But onwards and upwards all eyes are currently on EURO 2024 where the Three Lions are in action having qualified as Group C winners.
Later this year attention turns to UEFA Nations League where England go up against Republic of Ireland, Finland and Greece in League B, Group 2. Having been relegated from League A last season, England’s men have their sights set on finishing top of the group to secure automatic promotion.
England open their campaign with a trip to Dublin to face the Republic of Ireland on Saturday 7 September before returning to London to face Finland at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday 10 September. The first of three home matches in the run up to Christmas. On Tuesday 10 October, Greece are the visitors ahead of a Wembley showdown with the Republic of Ireland on Sunday 17 November which could be crucial to determining the group winners.

🚊🚗 Travel tips: Using public transport is advised. Wembley Park tube station is closest to Wembley Stadium. It’s in Zone 4 and just two stops from Baker Street on the Metropolitan Line. It’s also on the Jubilee Line. Wembley Stadium station is nine minutes from London Marylebone via the Chiltern Line. The Wembley Stadium Sofa to Seat tool is useful to explore travel options.
