⚽️ The road to the 2022 FIFA World Cup continues for England’s men at Wembley Stadium as they take on Germany in the UEFA Nations League. For the latest ticket information see below.
It was a case of so near yet so far last July when a penalty shootout defeat to Italy in the EURO 2020 final denied the England men at Wembley Stadium a first major international trophy since 1966.
But onwards and upwards and from European to global aspirations, England went on to finish top of the Group I in World Cup qualifying. Finishing on 26 points the Three Lions qualified automatically for this winter’s tournament, ahead of runners-up Poland who must take their chances in the play-offs.
Now the England team continue the build-up to Qatar with a showdown against old rivals Germany. The match – a Group 3 clash in the UEFA Nations League – is a key part of Gareth Southgate’s preparations as he looks to finalise his squad in readiness for November and the start of the World Cup.
To say England and Germany have football history is an understatement. A rivalry going back over 50 years has seen many ups and downs, from World Cup glory for Bobby Moore’s team in 1966 to Euros desolation for England in a penalty shootout in 1996.
Fast forward to 2021 and the most recent encounter between the sides was a famous victory for England in the last 16 of EURO 2020. Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane were England’s heroes at Wembley Stadium as Gareth Southgate’s men landed a memorable 2-0 victory to take them into the quarter-finals.
And so to tonight. Can England’s men continue their winning habit as they prepare for a first ever winter FIFA World Cup? Or will Germany get revenge for their EURO 2020 defeat? All roads lead to Wembley Stadium to find out.
