All eyes will be on the Home of England football on Saturday 29 November for the Lionesses’ first match since their historic 2025 UEFA Women’s EURO Championship triumph. Sunday 27 July 2025 is a date that will live long in the memory after the Lionesses became the first ever senior England side to win a major tournament on foreign soil. England’s women met Spain in the final of EURO 2025 in a nail-biting match. Chloe Kelly scored the winning penalty for the Lionesses after the match had finished 1-1 after 90 minutes and extra time could not separate the sides.
Now attention turns to the start of qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in February next year. And the game against China is a great opportunity for Wiegman’s squad to test themselves after their summer campaign. China are themselves in preparation mode as they get ready to defend their Asian Cup title in March 2026 in Australia.
The match will complete a hat-trick of appearances at the national stadium this calendar year for England’s women. EURO runners-up Spain were beaten 1-0 in February ahead of a 6-0 defeat of Portugal in May.
ENGLAND v CHINA QUOTES
England last met China in August 2023 in the World Cup group stage, with the Lionesses earning a 6-1 victory in Adelaide on their way to finishing runners-up.
The Steel Roses, ranked 17th by FIFA, have achieved notable results this July including 2-2 and 0-0 draws against Korea Republic and Japan respectively, with the latter seventh in the world rankings.
On the announcement of the fixture, Wiegman said: “After an incredible month and the celebrations this week, we are already planning ahead. It will be special to have a final visit to Wembley this year and something for us all to look forward to once the new season starts.
“Even though we have just finished the EURO, our World Cup qualifiers are not too far away. There are not many opportunities for us to play non-European opposition in the calendar. So I am happy we have been able to secure a top Asian side like China for this FIFA window.”
