The FA Community Shield is an annual fixture which has taken place since 1908. Previously known as the FA Charity Shield it pits the Premier League and FA Cup final winners from the previous season against each other as a curtain-raiser for the new season. This year’s match between Liverpool and Crystal Palace will take place on Sunday 10 August and Community Shield hospitality is available to watch the latest chapter of this historic match.
In 2024, Manchester City took the spoils following a dramatic penalty shootout against city rivals Manchester United. The match ended 1-1 with the Citizens winning the shootout 7-6. It was redemption of sorts for Pep Guardiola’s side who were beaten by Arsenal in the 2023 final. The Gunners won 4-1 on penalties after equalising deep into stoppage time.
This year’s Community Shield pits Premier League champions Liverpool against FA Cup winners Crystal Palace. The Eagles are flying high after their victory over Man City and securing the first major trophy in the club’s history. Liverpool will start as favourites after they cruised to the Premier League title.
Who will follow in the 2024 footsteps of Man City and claim the first silverware of the new season? All will be revealed at Wembley Stadium this afternoon.
