The FA Cup is the first of football’s great competitions and the most watched domestic cup final in the world.  With a rich history dating back to 1872Wanderers won the very first FA Cup final beating Royal Engineers 1-0 at the Kennington Oval in London – it’s the longest-running football competition in the world and one that has created a thousand memories for players and fans alike.  Most recently in 2021 when Leicester City beat Chelsea 1-0 to win the trophy for the first time in their history.

The knockout road to Wembley – featuring teams from all levels of the game in England and Wales – started some eight months ago with the qualifying rounds before the Premier League and Championship teams entered the competition in January at the third round stage.  Football’s oldest tournament rarely disappoints and expect another sell-out crowd at the national stadium.

This afternoon Liverpool and Chelsea collide to decide who’s name will be engraved on the trophy as 2022 winners.  Chelsea saw off London rivals Crystal Palace in the semi-finals courtesy of goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount.  Liverpool secured their place at Wembley with a 3-2 win over Manchester City (a Sadio Mane double putting them in charge), a result that kept the Reds on course for a historic quadruple.

There must be a winner today with extra time if the match finishes all square after normal time, and penalties if the sides can’t be separated by 120 minutes of football.  Will Chelsea take the famous silverware back to west London, or will it head to Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium trophy cabinet?  All roads lead to Wembley Stadium for the latest chapter of this famous competition to find out!
