Irn-Bru Cup Final

IRN-BRU Cup Final

It’s cup final time this afternoon as Championship rivals Dundee United and St Mirren face off in the IRN-BRU Cup final at Motherwell’s Fir Park.  Kick-off is at 12.30pm.

Dundee United come into this game on a terrible run of form; the Tangerines have only won twice in 2017 and have suffered three consecutive defeats in the league that has seen them slip behind Falkirk and Morton in the table.  Meanwhile, relegation threatened St Mirren have experienced an upturn in form of late with Jack Ross’ side losing just twice in their last 10 games in all competitions and have won back-to-back games over today’s opponents and Queen of the South respectively, meaning they are now just four points from safety in the Championship.

Route to the final: United needed extra time to overcome Peterhead 3-2 in the third round before scraping past Stranraer and Dunfermline in the last 16 and quarter-finals respectively and in the semi-final the raced into a 3-0 lead over Queen of the South, holding out for the 3-2 victory.  St Mirren also needed extra time to beat Albion Rovers 4-3 in the third round before securing a shock 2-1 victory over Hibs in the last 16, a 2-1 win over Ayr United followed and in the semi-final they put four past Welsh outfit The New Saints.

Kick-off is at the earlier time of 12.30pm.

Tickets for the game are priced £20 for adults, £10 concessions and just £5 for U12s and are available from the two clubs.  For more information see the Dundee United and St Mirren websites.
