2022/2023 was a rollercoaster season for Liverpool who were mid-table before finishing strongly to end in fifth place. The Reds are eyeing Champions League qualification as a minimum this season. Better still a title challenge in an effort to regain the Premier League trophy they last won in 2020. SEASON SO FAR
Liverpool will be delighted after defeating Brighton 2-1 at Anfield in the Premier League. A result that saw the Reds go top of the table.
Danny Welbeck opened the scoring for the visitors with a superb strike, silencing the home crowd. It took a while for Jurgen Klopp’s side to find their feet in the game, but as often seen at Anfield, the 12th man paid dividends. Luis Diaz scored a crucial equaliser for the Reds following a Brighton defensive mistake. Klopp’s side continued to dominate possession and a pinpoint pass landed at the feet of Mohamed Salah who fired the ball past Bart Verbruggen. It was Salah’s ninth goal against Brighton. The Seagulls had their chances late on, but failed to convert them.
Update Saturday 27 April: Liverpool could only draw 2-2 at London Stadium at West Ham. Following on from their 2-0 defeat to Everton in the Merseyside Derby, the Reds title aspirations are now hanging by a thread. Liverpool at third in the table, two points behind leaders Arsenal who have a game in hand. Nothing but wins will do for Jurgen Klopp’s side from their remaining three matches.
