Liverpool defeated Burnley 3-1 at Anfield in the Premier League, to remain top of the table.

The biggest crowd of the season at Anfield, totalling 60,275, followed the opening of the expanded Anfield Road stand.  The match also saw a record for Trent Alexander-Arnold who set a new record of 58 Premier League assists by a defender, following Diogo Jota’s opening goal.  With flu affecting the side, the hosts went into half-time level with the Clarets.  However, goals from Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez ensured Jurgen Klopp’s side secured all three points.

Update: 17 February.  Liverpool enjoyed a profitable trip to London, sweeping aside Brentford 4-1 at Gtech Community Stadium.  The Reds are top of the league on 57 points.  Their nearest challengers are Manchester City and Arsenal – in second and third place respectively – on 52 points.

Up next, Liverpool host Luton Town on Wednesday 21 February in the Premier League.  Last time out, Liverpool scored a last-minute stoppage-time equaliser against the Hatters at Kenilworth Road.  The Reds will be hoping for greater success in this meeting.  The match vs Luton is followed by the visit of Southampton for an FA Cup fifth round showdown under the lights at Anfield on Wednesday 28 February.

‘The Egyptian King’ Mohamed Salah, electric winger Luiz Diaz and bullish midfielder Domonik Szoboszlai have all enjoyed a great 2023/2024 campaign, as the Liverpool attack continues to tear defences apart.
