2025 RESULT

CONGRATULATIONS to Nigeria the 2025 Unity Cup champions!  Unity Cup tickets were in hot demand to see the Super Eagles go head-to-head with Jamaica in the final.  The match finished 2-2 after normal time.  The Nigerians held their nerve in the penalty shootout prevailing by 5-4.

2025 EVENT PREVIEW

Ghana, Jamaica, Nigeria and Trinidad & Tobago take centre stage in May at the Gtech Community Stadium as the Unity Cup returns for the first time since 2004.

The Unity Cup is an Afro-Caribbean international football tournament which was last held in 2004.  Taking place between Tuesday 27 to Saturday 31 May the 2025 edition of the tournament has been billed at “The Best in the West – the Afro Classico Contest”.  Fans are in for a treat with two semi-finals in midweek – each a compelling local derby – ahead of Grand Finals day on Saturday 31 May.  Unity Cup tickets are on sale now.

MATCH DATES

The first semi-final on Tuesday 27 May will feature the first-ever TriniJam clash on UK shores.  Soca Warriors of Trinidad & Tobago take on the Reggae Boyz of Jamaica.  The winning side can claim they are the best in the West Indies as they progress to Saturday’s final.

The following day, Wednesday 28 May, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will face the Black Stars of Ghana.  The second semi-final will determine who has the bragging rights in West Africa.

Then on Saturday 31 May all four teams will play again in a double-header with a bronze medal match first followed by the final to decide who will lift The Unity Cup 2025.

Two-time Unity Cup winners Nigeria may start as favourites given their FIFA ranking and recent performances.  However, the form book goes out of the window when playing their West African rivals Ghana.  The Black Stars are returning to London where they previously inflicted a 4-1 routing of the Super Eagles.

QUOTES

Brentford club ambassador and former Jamaica international Marcus Gayle said: “We are excited for the return of the Unity Cup and so proud to host the tournament at Gtech Community Stadium.

“This tournament will not only bring together elite footballing talent from Africa and the Caribbean but also celebrate the deep cultural and sporting connections between these nations.

“This is a great opportunity for the world to see the thriving talent of these players. We look forward to the entertainment the Unity Cup brings and seeing the tournament make its mark once again.”

Andy Howes, co-director of AfroSport, added: “The Unity Cup is a tournament that really does invoke the often-used phrase of an event that goes ‘beyond sport’.

“But with the array of elite stars, and profile of the teams involved, this event is not only important in terms of its cultural significance but also is a reflection of the growing commercial importance of African and Caribbean football as well as the growing demographic of black football fans within English football.”
