The 2019 Solheim Cup

The eyes of the sporting world will be on Gleneagles this week for the biggest event in women’s golf.  Stand by for Europe vs United States in the 2019 Solheim Cup.  Tickets are on sale.

Taking place from the 9-15 September the 2019 Solheim Cup is the latest edition of a biennial tournament for professional women golfers contested by teams representing Europe and the United States, and hence equivalent to the Ryder Cup for men.

Catriona Matthew captains a European team including Georgia Hall and Charley Hull (pictured below) who proved a powerful team combination when representing England Women at the Golf Sixes in 2018.

First staged in 1990 the 2019 event will be the 16th edition.  United States are the current holders having won at the Des Moines Golf and Country Club in West Des Moines, Iowa in 2017.  On that occasion they were captained by Juli Inkster who returns again in 2019 to captain the US for a third time in a row.

Can Europe win the trophy back?  Or will the US once again prove too strong?  All roads lead to the fairways at Gleneagles to find out.
