MAIN TOURNAMENT: Wednesday to Sunday

The world’s best female golf players are set to travel to the south of London in August to complete in one of the strongest fields of the year.

South Africa’s Ashleigh Buhai leads the way by defending the AIG Women’s Open title she won in 2022 after defeating In Gee Chun in an epic four-hole play-off.  Buhai’s first major title saw her become just the second-ever South African winner of the tournament, following Alison Sheard’s victory in 1979.

Anna Nordqvist from Sweden is expected to join Buhai.  One of the most successful golfers of her generation Nordqvist secured the third major of her career by claiming victory at the AIG Women’s Open at Carnoustie in 2021.  Watch out too for the 2020 winner Sophia Popov who wrote one of the most heart-warming, rags to riches stories in AIG Women’s Open history when she won the 2020 title at Royal Troon.  Ranked 304th in the world, Popov became the first German to win a women’s major.
