Great Scottish Swim

Scottish swimming stars Robbie Renwick, Kerri-anne Payne and Craig Benson are among the competitors diving into the open waters of Loch Lomond this afternoon at the Great Scottish Swim.

A big day of swimming action with mass participation races from 1 mile up to 5k starts at 8am.  And then from 2pm some of the world’s best open water swimmers will take to the loch for the Elite Women (starting 2.15pm) followed by the Elite Men (starting 2.30pm) races over a distance of one mile.

Both elite events incorporate the Scottish Swimming National One Mile Open Water Championship, with the women’s race featuring Edinburgh resident, Olympian and two-time world champion Keri-anne Payne, who will be competing against World Cup winner Jana Pechanova from the Czech Republic, as well as 10 time, national USA open water 10K champion, Christine Jennings.

In the men’s race 2015 World Champion and Commonwealth Games silver medallist Robbie Renwick and European Champion Craig Benson will be taking on the 2015 open water World Champion, Christian Reichert of Germany as well as Loughborough based open water specialist, two-time World Cup winner, Englishman Jack Burnell.

Taking place just a 40 minute drive from Glasgow and within easy access of Stirling and Edinburgh, the event is a great opportunity to watch Olympians and world champions battle it for the 2016 Great Scottish Swim titles.

Spectating is free, no tickets are required.
