Scottish Acrobatic FIG Championships

2017 Scottish Acrobatic FIG Championships

A feast of acrobatic action awaits this weekend as Ravenscraig Sports Facility hosts the Scottish Acrobatic FIG Championships.  Day 1 of the action starts at 9.45am and tickets are available on the door.

Following on from the Scottish NDP (National Development Plan) Championships in March this weekend’s FIG (Federation of International Gymnastics) event will showcase the acrobatics discipline at the highest level.  Individual and team honours are at stake during a weekend of exciting gymnastics action.

Acrobatic Gymnastics is a modern and artistic gymnastics discipline which requires an extraordinary amount of courage and trust amongst gymnasts.  Acrobatic routines are choreographed to music and presented on a 12 X 12 metre sprung floor surface, Acrobatic Gymnastics is full of expression.  A dramatic visual discipline popular with spectators, Acrobatic Gymnastics includes partnership work on the floor where there are five categories of competition: women’s pairs ~ men’s pairs ~ mixed pairs ~ women’s trios ~ men’s fours.

The discipline is both physically and psychologically demanding. It involves gymnasts working closely together, building up trust and responsibility for each other and developing skills in balance and dynamic elements.  Acrobatic Gymnastics combines the skill and activity of the gymnast, expressive movement and artistry of a dancer and the courage and excitement of the acrobat.

Doors open at 8.45am. Competition starts at 9.45am, with the Scottish Acrobatic FIG Championships medal ceremony at approximately 4.30pm.

Tickets on the day are available at the door.  One-day pass: £7 adults, £4 concessions.  Two-day pass: £12 adults, £6 concessions.

The Scottish Acrobatic FIG Championships continue on Sunday from 10am.
