‘The Investec Cup’. Heriot’s Rugby Club welcome the legendary Barbarians to Goldenacre for a match celebrating the 125th anniversary of both clubs.
It promises to be a memorable occasion for rugby fans with entertainment from 4.30pm including the Heriot’s Pipe Band, followed by the match kicking off at 6pm. There will be a hospitality tent, food stalls and souvenir merchandise, and the message from the club is; Everyone welcome!
The Barbarians squad has recently been finalised as announced via a news update from the Heriot’s website:
“Gordon Ross, former Heriot’s favourite and Scotland cap, returns to Goldenacre to play his final game at the place he learnt his rugby. Bruce Douglas, also former Heriot’s and Scotland with 43 caps also returns to Goldenacre.
“In total, 10 internationalists from 7 different countries will take to the Goldenacre pitch, with in total 10 different countries represented including all 4 home nations. 7 English premiership players and 5 PRO 12 players including Edinburgh favourite Cornell du Preeze, who is making a long awaited return from serious injury have been included in the line up.
“You won’t see a team with so many counties represented play against a club team in Scotland for a long time. How fitting that the most famous club team in the world is playing the top Scotland club team in celebration of both their 125 celebrations. Both clubs famed for running rugby.”
