Match two of a 3-match series between Scotland and Wales Men’s teams taking place at Glasgow National Hockey Centre, as part of an international festival of hockey taking place at Glasgow Green between the 19th and 28th June.
The series is valuable preparation for the Scotland team as they continue their preparations for the upcoming EuroHockey Championship II, taking place in Prague in July. The ‘Scottish Blue Sticks’ will be favourites to come out of this series as victors with a world ranking of 27 compared to Wales’ ranking of 36, but with the Welsh squad featuring no less than 10 members of the side that competed in at Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games they won’t lack for experience as they seek to take a Scottish scalp on away turf.
The match starts at 2pm with admission on the day. Spectators are invited to make a discretionary cash donation to Scottish Hockey to cover the costs of entry.
As a bonus today there are two additional fixtures to enjoy. Firstly at 4pm there’s a clash between Scotland U16 Boys v Ulster, followed by a Men’s U21 match between Scotland and England at 6pm. The latter match between two fierce sporting rivals promises to be a spicy affair. In terms of rankings England’s senior men’s side are in a much better position at No. 5 in the world compared to their Scottish compatriots at No. 27. The match between the U21s represents a terrific opportunity for the youngsters as they all look to stake a claim for a place to represent their country in readiness for the Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast in 2018.
