Epsom Open Day (Cancelled)

🏇 Training yards around Epsom Downs Racecourse open their doors this morning for the annual Epsom Open DayTickets are on sale.

STATEMENT FROM RACING WELFARE: 9 September

Today we have taken the difficult decision to cancel both the Epsom and Malton Open Days.  In light of the incredibly sad passing of Her Majesty The Queen, some trainers no longer felt comfortable in opening their yards, while the revised racing fixture for Sunday has also meant for others, it is no longer possible to open.

While we know many will be disappointed, these are exceptional circumstances.  Our thoughts remain with King Charles III and all members of the Royal Family at this time.

Epsom Open Day is part of National Racehorse Week, a nationwide annual celebration of the racehorse and a chance to see first-hand the love, care and attention that goes into looking after them.  Racing training yards up and down the country, including training centres such as Epsom, Malton and Newmarket will be opening their doors from 10th to 18th September to showcase the fantastic lives that these magnificent animals lead.

At Epsom today, between 9.30am to 1pm, six trainers open their yards to the public to give a unique insight into the day-to-day life of a thoroughbred racehorse and the staff who look after them.  Activities throughout the morning include stable yard tours, tack talks & grooming & farrier demonstrations.  Refreshments will be available and free shuttle buses will be running between the yards, dropping off and picking up visitors at the yard designated bus stops.

Prior to that, between 8am to 9am, is an opportunity to join Rishi Persad and Epsom trainers on the Sand Gallops for interviews and to witness some of the horses in action.

🎟️ Tickets are available via the ‘Get Tickets’ link.  Under 16’s are free of charge.

🏇 Activities start at 8am with the gallops display followed by stable yard tours from 9.30am.  The Open Day Car Park (car park 15) opens at 8am.  Free shuttle buses running between the yards will commence at 9am, dropping off and picking up visitors at the yard designated bus stops.  Full visitor information here.
