Fife Flyers v Edinburgh Capitals

Elite League.  Saturday night at Fife Ice Arena and it’s an all-Scottish showdown between Fife Flyers and Edinburgh Capitals on the ice hockey menu.  Face-off is at 7.15pm and tickets are available online.

Fife Flyers are a team reborn since their 5-4 OT win against then leaders Nottingham Panthers at the end of November.  Memories of an erratic start to the season are just that with the team from Kirkcaldy putting together a string of victories including a 10-1 annihilation of Edinburgh Capitals on Boxing Day, a 6-2 win over Manchester Storm and last weekend’s 4-point haul against fierce rivals Braehead Clan.  It’s a sequence of results that has seen Fife Flyers go top of the Gardiner Conference ahead of tonight’s opponents Braehead Clan, and climb up to third place in the Elite League with games in hand in Cardiff Devils and Belfast Giants above them.

For Edinburgh Capitals it’s been a campaign to forget so far.  Rock bottom of the Elite League with just 7 points from 32 matches the Capitals are seemingly playing for pride only, with Flyers the hot favourites to continue their superb run of form at Fife Ice Arena tonight.

Previous head-to-head: 31st December at Murrayfield Ice Rink.  Fife Flyers ending the year with a 5-3 victory in the capital.
