John Dixon Park in Markinch, Fife is the place to be this afternoon for the 2016 Markinch Highland Games.

Commencing at 12.30pm this traditional Highland Games event features ongoing events throughout the afternoon including a Grand Pipe Contest, Highland Dancing, Drum Majors and Solo Piping.

There’s also a full programme of track athletics, grass track cycling and all the usual heavy events including the 28lb Weight for Distance where Gregor Edmunds famously broke the world record (pictured) at Markinch in 2011, a record that still stands today.

Other attractions include children’s fun races, stalls, side-shows and a fun fair meaning there is something for everyone at what promises to be a great family day out at the Markinch Highland Games.

Games start at 12.30pm.

Admission is on the day: Adults £6 ~ Concessions £3 ~ Family £15 ~ Car parking £1.
