MGM Promotions Scotland: Lights Out

MGM Promotions Scotland presents Lights Out, a night of Championship Boxing at the Lagoon Leisure Centre headlined by WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders.

Top of the bill tonight is a treat for fight fans as Billy Joe Saunders makes the first defence of his WBO middleweight title, taking on Russia’s Artur Akavov.  The fight was postponed a week due to the late arrival of the Russian and means unbeaten Saunders – who won the world title in December last year when he beat Irishman Andy Lee at the MEN Arena in Manchester – will showcase his skills for the first time in Scotland.

Chief support on the night is Lancashire’s Jack Catterall, who defends his WBO Inter-Continental super lightweight title.  Unbeaten in 16 fights – including a win over the highly-rated Thomas Stalker who captained the GB boxing team at London 2012 – Caterall has been marked out by many as one to watch in the professional game and is seemingly destined to achieve global honours.

Also in action on a quality undercard is Paul Butler from Cheshire, a former IBF bantamweight world champion.  Butler has dropped down to super-flyweight where he is targeting another world title opportunity in 2017 and will be looking to impress tonight in front of a Paisley audience.

MGM Promotions Scotland also showcase a number of home-grown boxers including Livingston’s Thomas Dickson who is looking to bounce back from a defeat in October, his first in 6 fights.  And Tommy Philbin, Edinburgh’s light-heavyweight prospect will be looking to extend his perfect record in the professional ranks tonight by making it 7 wins out of 7.

Doors open for this MGM Promotions Scotland show at 6pm, first contest at 6.30pm.

Tickets in advance are available via the ‘Get Tickets’ link.  Standard £40/Ringside £60/VIP £100. (Closes Friday)

Tickets on the night available on the door subject to availability.  Checking the MGM Promotions Scotland Twitter feed before travelling is recommended.
