The P1 Superstock Championship returns to Greenock for a weekend of high-octane powerboating and jet ski action on the River Clyde. Day 1 action starts at 10am and spectating is free.
Known as the Scottish Grand Prix of the Sea thousands of spectators are expected to descend upon Inverclyde for the latest leg of the P1 SuperStock and AquaX national race series as it returns for a second year.
Scottish father and daughter pairing Davie and Ashleigh Finlayson (pictured left) from Musselburgh will be flying the flag for Scotland in the “Spirit of Inverclyde” race boat and the Greenock Esplanade is the place across the weekend for the P1 Scottish Grand Prix of the Sea which promises to deliver some great free entertainment both on and off the water in an event co-hosted by Inverclyde Council and Riverside Inverclyde and supported by EventScotland.
Following a hugely successful first year in Greenock the event will once again transform the Esplanade into a buzz of activity celebrating marine motorsport and championing Inverclyde. A weekend of sport and family entertainment will include jet ski freestyle displays.
What is the P1 Superstock Championship? P1 SuperStock Championship is based on racing identical production boats – the stunning P1 Panther with two classes competing in five Grand Prix of the Sea events each season. In developing the sport of powerboating at a grass roots level, Powerboat P1 is uniquely establishing P1 SuperStock as a national series of powerboating in a number of different countries. The SuperStock race courses are close to shore, tight and fast, making it a great spectacle for the public and equally demanding on the drivers and navigators. P1 SuperStock events are currently held in the USA and venues around the UK. Up to three races are held over a race weekend lasting around 20 minutes each.
Greenock Esplanade has been transformed for the event into a showcase featuring a programme of interactive activities celebrating the Year of History, Heritage & Archaeology, Scotland’s Food & Drink and Things To See And Do In Inverclyde. A free children’s play zone will complement the activity on the water.

Spectating is free at the P1 Superstock Championship. Visitors should enter the event area at The Esplanade pedestrian entry points at the junction of Johnston Street and the junction with North Street, where there will be security checks in place including bag searches.
