ABOUT THE E1 SERIES
The E1 Series is the first electric powerboat racing series in the world. Officially known as the UIM E1 World Championship. An ambitious and visually stunning motorsport, E1 Series is designed to showcase the potential of clean, electric marine technology while delivering fast-paced, city-based races on water.
The series was co-founded by Alejandro Agag and Rodi Basso. Agag is the creator of Formula E and Extreme E. Basso is a former NASA and Formula 1 engineer. The mission of the series is to protect oceans, promote sustainable innovation and thrill audiences worldwide.
At the heart of the series is the RaceBird, a cutting-edge electric hydrofoil powerboat which can reach speeds of up to 50 knots (about 58 mph or 93 km/h).
Races take place in urban coastal cities. So far locations have included Venice, Monaco, Hong Kong and Jeddah. There are up to 10 teams, each backed by well-known figures from sport and music. Tom Brady, Virat Kohli, Will Smith and Didier Drogba are among those involved.
Each team has a male and female pilot. James’s Team AlUla is the newest entrant to the series. It features British off-road motor racing driver and BBC TV presenter Catie Munnings.
