🏒 All-action ice hockey is the name of the game as Romford Raiders take on Bristol Pitbulls in the Planet Ice NIHL on Sunday 23 March.  See below for a a preview and the latest ticket news. 

Romford Raiders are flying the flag this season for London in the top tier of the NIHL.  Approaching the business end of the Planet Ice National League season (more on the league below) Raiders are in seventh place.  The Essex side need to finish in the top eight to qualify for the end-of-season play-offs.  Raiders Ice Hockey tickets are on sale now to watch the action. 

Playing out of the Sapphire Ice & Leisure, which doesn’t have a bad seat in the house, a busy March period has already seen the Raiders take on leaders Milton Keynes Lightning and Berkshire Bees on home ice.  Now attention turns to the visit of Bristol Pitbulls on Sunday 23 March.  The game concludes the regular season with the Raiders already guaranteed progression to the play-offs taking place on the weekend of 29 March.

Great family entertainment is guaranteed as all roads lead to the Sapphire for a feast of ice hockey, Raiders style, in Romford.

🕒 Face-off is at 5.15pm except for matches played on a Friday night which start at 7.15pm.

🚊🚗 Travel tips: The nearest railway station is Romford.  This is a five-minute walk from the Sapphire Ice and Leisure Centre.  Romford station is in Zone 6 and on the Great Eastern line.  Trains from London Liverpool Street take 30 minutes.  Use the Transport for London website to plan your journey.  If travelling by car, parking is available at the Liberty Car Park located just by the venue entrance.

ABOUT THE PLANET ICE NATIONAL LEAGUE

The Planet Ice National League is the top tier of the National Ice Hockey League (NIHL).  It comprises eleven teams.  The teams  play each other home and away during the season which runs from September to early April.  The season finishes with eight sides taking part in the play-offs, with 4 progressing to the the Final Four weekend in April at the SkyDome at Planet Ice Coventry to decided the overall champions.  The teams also take part in a knockout competition, the National Cup. 

Romford Raiders are London’s sole representatives.  Joining them for season 2024/2025 are: Berkshire Bees, Bristol Pitbulls, Hull Seahawks, Leeds Knights, Milton Keynes Lightning, Peterborough Phantoms, Sheffield Steeldogs, Solway Sharks, Swindon Wildcats and Telford Tigers.

The National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) encompasses England Ice Hockey’s senior leagues.  It is currently the second tier of British ice hockey, below the Elite Ice Hockey League.  The top NIHL league is the Planet Ice National League.  Below that the leagues are then split into North and South regions.  Each North and South region has two divisions.
