2016 BT Premiership Final. Ayr v Heriot's.

BT Premiership Final: Ayr v Heriot’s

BT Premiership Final.  Millbrae is the venue for a showdown this afternoon between Ayr and Heriot’s, with the biggest prize in Scottish domestic rugby at stake.

After 18 games of the regular season in the Premiership it was Ayr who finished on top with 68 points while today’s opponents Heriot’s (who are the defending champions after their victory over Melrose in last year’s final) having won won last year’s Premiership Final) were third on 56 points.

The play-off semi-finals saw Ayr exact revenge on Melrose (the team that had knocked them out at the same stage last year) courtesy of a resounding 48-10 win.  Meanwhile Heriot’s travelled to Currie and pulled off a dramatic 24-22 win to secure their berth in the BT Premiership Final.

The two teams have met twice in the league this season, Ayr winning 29-25 at Goldenacre back on October while in the reverse match at Millbrae it was once again the team from Ayrshire who came out on top, this time by 20 points to 8.  The head-to-head form book suggests Ayr are the favourites however Heriot’s will be in no mood to relinquish the trophy they won last year, especially as they are chasing a domestic double having lifted the BT Cup last weekend at Murrayfield courtesy of a 21-13 win over Melrose.

It’s all set up for a fascinating afternoon of high stakes rugby.  For one team elation awaits, for the other deflation – head to Millbrae to watch all the action unfold live!

Kick-off for the BT Premiership Final is at 3pm.

Admission is on the gate priced: Adults £10/Over-60s £5/U18s free.
