🏉 Rugby league meets the City of London as Capital Challenge returns for 2022 with this year’s instalment featuring London Skolars against the British Army.
Congratulations to London Skolars who beat the British Army 52-18 to win the 2022 Capital Challenge on a sunny afternoon at the Honourable Artillery Company. Stay tuned here for 2023 ticket news as soon as released. And for spectator events coming up soon in London – including rugby league – visit our What’s On page.
The stunning surroundings of the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC) is the venue for the 17th annual Capital Challenge match this afternoon.
The Capital Challenge has become an iconic event in the rugby league calendar since its inception at the start of the century. In 2020 London Skolars welcomed Wigan Warriors to HAC and this year the British Army are the opposition.
The event was put back from its original date in January and announcing the new date London Skolar’s chairman, Adrian Fraine, said: “We’d like to thank our fans and sponsors for their patience whilst the club have worked on confirming this re-arranged event. Postponing the event and moving it from its traditional place in the calendar was not ideal but the right call at the time. Playing the British Army at such an iconic military base will make for a marvellous occasion. If you haven’t already, get your tickets and come join us for an afternoon of Rugby League on March 18th!”
Army Manager, Richard Stebbing, added about being part of the iconic event: “This is a great fixture for the Army Rugby League Senior Team. Having the chance to play a League 1 Club will be a great challenge and playing in the centre of London is a great opportunity. This should be a very competitive fixture and gives us a chance to showcase this brilliant sport.”
Rugby league is not played on a more iconic or valuable sporting venue than the Honourable Artillery Company. The HAC is a 5-minute walk from Moorgate and the heart of London’s financial district.
